Today the World Health Organisation published its annual World Malaria Report.

Malaria is fighting back, with covid the fight is even harder.

Malaria cases and deaths have risen to the highest level in nearly a decade. In 2020, disruption caused by the pandemic contributed to a 12% increase in malaria deaths – with a total of 627,000 lives lost to this preventable and treatable disease.

Malaria is stealing our future. Children in Africa continue to be the most at risk from malaria. The World Malaria Report 2021 shows thousands more children than previously thought are dying from this deadly disease. Children under 5 in Africa are the most at risk, making up 80% of malaria deaths, with around 481,500 children under 5 losing their lives to this deadly disease in 2020.

This new report shows a child is dying every minute from malaria.

Malaria, we won’t let you steal from us anymore. If we're going to win this fight, we must stand up against this deadly disease now. We must make sure our voices are heard. Let’s draw the line against malaria and call on our leaders to end this deadly disease that is robbing Africa of its future!

More countries than ever are within reach of elimination, but every country should be able to benefit from zero malaria. We must act now to create a fairer future that leaves no one behind.

We are the generation that will end malaria!
